All Dressed in White
For those of you who adhere to fashion rules, I'm posting this in the nick of time: Labor Day is about to fly by, along with your ability to wear white, so here's a little last-minute indulgence.
The chic picnic sensation called Diner En Blanc started in Paris (I know...shocker) nearly 30 years ago and is now held annually in cities all over the world. The concept is this: the location of the flash gathering is kept secret by local organizers until literally the last moment. Participants dress all in white (this is a major detail, not to be ignored even in the slightest way!) and meet in designated spots close to the final location, carrying with them everything they need for their picnic: Tables. Chairs. Food. Drinks. Decorations. (Yep. Decorations.) The organizers then walk their groups to the mystery spot and everyone starts setting up their fancy-pants dinner.
When I was offered the opportunity to help photograph the event in Charleston this spring, I was, to be honest, a bit hesitant. Event photography is not my favorite; I had to find something to wear (who has white in their closet?); and I felt like the concept had the potential to be a little... er... lame.
Turns out, the only thing that was lame about the entire evening was my prejudgment (I know...again...shocker). It was completely beautiful, and most importantly, everyone had so much fun. Take a look!
