I'm an editorial photographer in Charleston, South Carolina. I travel as much as possible, I have a darling dog named Dignan, and I enjoy thrift shopping, Netflixing and eating out. Long walks on the beach are just OK.

Grazie Tante, Italia

Grazie Tante, Italia

There's no such thing as overdoing gelato.

One of my favorite images ever.

Italy is special for a million reasons—you know most of them, even if you haven’t been there, because the folks you know who have been there have never stopped talking about it. But Italy was special to my mom and me for different reasons. Our trip marked the first time we’d been able to travel together in many years, as we’d recently lost my dad after a long illness. It was a tender celebration; we knew he’d have been overjoyed to see us adventure together again. On top of that, a few weeks before we left, my mom’s house flooded for the third time in less than two years. On top of that, I was turning forty. (I repeat: forty). When life is throwing all of this your way, what choice have you but to go to Italy? And, oh, did it deliver! Everything sparkled. All was magic. It couldn’t have been more perfect.

Thank you, Italy. We needed that.
